Jodie (occasionally called Jode or Jo) is a trans woman sponsored by Donna in the 2017 intake. She is in a relationship with Connor and is dating xem seriously enough to consider eventually having kids with xem. [SD 22]

She has a bubbly, talkative personality and is prone to long, rambling bursts of conversation.

Jodie is a goth and generally wears the heaviest makeup in the Hall; [SD 47] Christine likens her style to Morticia Addams and notes that she does not allow Paige in her room so as to avoid potential makeovers. [SD 7] She wears her hair in a "wine-red" color [SD 22] and has a "skinny" build. [SD 45]

She runs a World of Darkness stream [SD 7] with Connor; she dresses up for the stream. [SD 22]

Gender

Jodie is trans but seems to have only realized it thanks to the Hall's intervention. She believes that she was never an egg but instead likens herself to a seed, claiming she could have gone her entire life "happy enough" without dysphoria or questioning her gender. [SD 22]

"I’ve been thinking of myself as having been something more like a seed. A girl in potentia, right? Now, an egg is fragile, yes? Vulnerable to moments of revelation, random events or people that will crack her shell and reveal the gooey girly mess inside, right?” [...] Well, a seed is tougher. And there’s not really any stuff inside, right? It can last years without breaking. Lifetimes, maybe. And it’s fine like that! It can happily be a seed until, eventually, it biodegrades. Circle of life! Even if you break it apart, crack it like you would an egg, there’s just bits inside. Crumbly little seedy bits. But.” [...] “If you plant the seed, if you water it, nurture it, love it, then maybe, after a while, you get a little plant. And if you keep watering the plant, if you care for it until it’s strong enough to stand up on its own, you get a flower, right? And maybe… maybe the flower is beautiful, and enjoys being beautiful, and likes the feel of the sun on her leaves… You get the idea?” [SD 22]

After deliberating over possibly taking a cis NPH, she ultimately decided to take a transgender NPH instead. [SD 22]

Pre-transition

First year

Christine describes the 2017 intake as originally being mainly a group of "introverts" who had been selected due to "social rather than physical" violence. [SD 17] After Craig washed out, the intake gradually split into "two-and-a-half cliques" -- Christine, Paige, and Vicky in one, Julia and Yasmin in another, and Jodie and her sponsor alone. Yasmin later speculates that they were all too alike to stand each other's company. [SD 29]

Vicky caught on early to the true nature of the programme and "immediately started evangelising girlhood to the rest of them", [SD 17] arguably hurrying the development of the rest of her cohort along with her; [SD 8] Maria claims she had a "distorting effect" on the rest of her intake. [SD 33]

At intake

Jodie and Donna were "partially attached" to Christine, Paige, and Vicky's group in the basement but "increasingly" spent their time alone together. [SD 29]

During her first year in the basement, Jodie called Aunt Bea a MILF to her face and was placed in the cells for a week. [SD 4] Later, in her third year, she continues to reference the incident, jokingly referring to Aunt Bea as "Auntie MILF"; she claims that Bea "likes" for the girls to be a little rebellious and that she only "pretends" to hate the nickname. [SD 22] (For her part, after Valérie returns, Bea resolves that "she really will basement her again, just for the day" if she makes a MILF joke regarding their relationship.) [SD 44]

While seemingly the most oppositional of her intake, Jodie was still comparatively one of the easier subjects the programme has seen in recent years. Maria likens her behavior in the basement to Faye, Christine, and Paige, as opposed to more violent subjects such as Leigh. [SD 18]

Jodie moved upstairs towards the end of her first year; in the period following her orchiectomy, she had a realization that she was only wanted to "go forward". Recognizing this, Donna brought her upstairs to her new room later the same day. She named herself upon entering her room, but didn't reveal it to others until three weeks later, when she announced it to Paige while cooking breakfast. [SD 31]

Second year

Christine recalls Jodie and Paige getting into a fight over a blush brush during their first week in the salon room early in their second year: "It was insane." [SD 46]

Third year

Abby considers Jodie to be on a "pretty standard trajectory, goth version". [SD 18] In her third year, she has begun socializing "extensively" with people from outside the programme. [SD 19] She appears to have a strong, loving connection with Donna [SD 22] and seems to hold "zero grudges" about her time at the Hall [SD 27] but it is suggested that she is not interested in becoming a sponsor herself after graduation. [SD 23]

When Maria is brought up to the kitchen following her attack by Leigh on November 27th, Jodie helps out by calling Indira, Monica, and Bea to alert them. [SD 17]

NPH

Jodie meets Lorna escaping from the rain when she arrives at the Hall for her GRS and electrolysis consults on December 11th. After inviting her to shower off in her room, she asks Lorna's advice regarding her NPH -- she is trans but is not sure if she wants to claim it on her NPH for safety reasons. However, a cis NPH would necessitate bottom surgery and would cut her off from finding a trans community after graduating from the Hall. After Lorna reassures her that she loves being trans and that she can't imagine giving up the community, Jodie makes up her mind, deciding on a trans NPH. She calls Donna immediately after to tell her the news and then takes Lorna with her downstairs to tell Tabitha and the other girls hanging out in the kitchen. [SD 22]

Jodie attends the 2019 Christmas Eve party and presents Lorna with a signed launch copy of Fallout: New Vegas as thanks for her help with her NPH. (Donna helped her source the present.) She informs Lorna that she hasn't had "a moment's doubt" since making the decision. [SD 31]

Further adventures

On January 2nd, 2020, Jodie and Donna attend the second years' skating rink excursion organized by Paige. [SD 35]

Jodie excitedly congratulates Christine when she finalizes her trans NPH on January 28th. [SD 46]

Trivia

  • Jodie occupies the first room on the third year floor and is first in line for inspections. [SD 4]
  • It seems as if there may be some sort of effort from Donna or senior staff to get Jodie to diversify her wardrobe, as she is occasionally seen wearing colors other than black around the end of 2019. [SD 13]
